CHAE Application Process

The Center for Higher and Adult Education offers visiting scholars a rich intellectual environment among students and faculty in the Higher, Adult, and Lifelong Education program at Michigan State University.  Visiting fellows and scholars are established domestic and international scholars with an earned doctorate or the foreign equivalent.  Visiting fellows are in residence for relatively short periods of time, while visiting scholar sare in residence for anywhere from 2 weeks to 1 academic year.

Application Process:

The application deadline is November 1.  All materials should be sent electronically to haleadm@msu.edu and must be received by the application deadline.  Applications received after November 1 will not be considered until the following year.

Visiting Scholars and Fellows must submit the following:

  • A statement of your scholarly or professional interest in pursuing a visiting fellow or scholar position in the Center for Higher and Adult Education, areas of interest, and specific faculty you would like to work with in the Center.
  • A copy of your curriculum vita
  • Two letters of support from those familiar with your work.

Once your application is complete, the Center faculty will review the materials.  Visiting fellows and scholars are accepted when a majority of the faculty approve the applicants request and when a faculty sponsor is identified. Successful applications are notified by January 10, at which time additional information will be requested to obtain the necessary visa.
