In his co-authored book with Professor Spencer C. Weiler at the University of Northern Colorado, Serna (2016) offered current and future higher education and student affairs leaders a practical approach to budgeting and fiscal administration in higher education. Specifically, through illustrations, examples, and practical budget exercises, Serna and Weiler provided readers with accessible resources and information on how to properly manage a budget that ensures the effective use of limited resources to support strategic and ongoing priorities. The book includes an overview of the theoretical concepts related to budgeting and how to put these concepts into practice. Some of the concepts addressed in the book include:
