In this symposium, HALE faculty and students share observations and analyses regarding their recent study abroad tour of higher education institutions in Japan for the course EAD 972: International Comparative Higher Education. Issues discussed include but are not limited to: different types of higher education institutions, internationalization, academic work, demographics, organizational change, governance, and curriculum. Overall, this symposium highlights how global, national, and local (glonacal) forces interact in shaping the higher education landscape in the non-Western country setting of Japan.
