Assistant Professor

Dr. Justin A. Gutzwa (they/them) is an Assistant Professor of HALE. Across their scholarship, Justin imagines what higher education institutions would look like if they were truly anti-racist and trans-liberatory. They employ critical theories and qualitative methods to dismantle deficit mentalities of LGBTQ+ communities in postsecondary education, particularly trans Communities of Color. Justin’s research also interrogates systemic minoritization in postsecondary STEM education across a variety of disciplines, including physics, astronomy, computer science, and the biomedical sciences. Currently, they serve as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Queer & Trans Studies in Education.
